In advance of this year’s municipal and statewide elections, NALEO Educational Fund and 2,000 groups across the country will celebrate National Voter Registration Day on September 26, by helping thousands of potential new voters.

As part of these efforts, NALEO Educational Fund and other National Voter Registration Day Steering Committee Members are hosting events nationwide and calling on libraries, universities, community organizations, and businesses to partner in this effort by volunteering or hosting local voter registration drives.

With over a quarter of Americans not voting at all, National Voter Registration Day is an occasion for community institutions, voters and election leaders to work together to increase the number of Americans who participate in our democracy.
“Millions of Latino voters did not make their voices heard in Election 2016, either because they lacked the information necessary to vote, missed a deadline, or were not properly registered,” stated Arturo Vargas, NALEO Educational Fund executive director and National Voter Registration Day Steering Committee member.

Vargas added, “We cannot afford to let that happen again if we want the Latino community and our democracy to realize its full political potential. That is why I am proud to have NALEO Educational Fund join partners across the country on National Voter Registration Day as we work together to ensure that Latinos and all eligible voters are able to exercise their right to vote in the future.”

On National Voter Registration Day and throughout the month of September, NALEO Educational Fund will do its part to ensure eligible new voters have the information necessary to register to vote and make their voices heard in upcoming elections.  Through our toll-free bilingual hotline, 1-888-VE-Y-VOTA (1-888-839-8682), NALEO Educational Fund’s live hotline operators can answer questions about any aspect of the voter registration and electoral process, from registration deadlines and requirements, to election dates, to polling locations, and more.
In 2016, NALEO Educational Fund fielded nearly 20,000 calls to its 1-888-VE-Y-VOTA

(1-888-839-8682) on National Voter Registration Day, helping thousands of potential new voters in advance of Election 2016.
Working alongside groups like the National Association of State Election Directors and other members of the National Voter Registration Day Steering Committee this year, NALEO Educational Fund is looking forward to once again assisting thousands of eligible voters in advance of local elections and statewide elections in places like New Jersey and Virginia.

“Local elections have a direct impact on people’s day-to-day lives,” said Judd Choate, President of the National Association of State Election Directors and member of the National Voter Registration Day Steering Committee. “They affect our parks and transit systems, the schools our kids attend, police and fire protection, as well as local taxes and the public investments they support.”

“Election officials like myself are largely focused on making the polls run smoothly and tabulating the results accurately,” stated Judd Choate, President of the National Association of State Election Directors and member of the National Voter Registration Day Steering Committee. “We count on community partners like NALEO Educational Fund, who have trust and established relationships in their respective communities to help ensure that voters are registered and informed about the voting process.”
