In the few months since Donald Trump has become president, tens of millions of Latinos and immigrants of all origins have lived in fear of harassment or deportation. These are communities that have been part of the American fabric even centuries before the US was founded as a country.
At the Sierra Club, the oldest and largest environmental organization in the country, not only do we believe Latinos and immigrants of all colors, national backgrounds and walks of life are an integral part of our country, but we fight every day to preserve this land for you, your family, and future generations.
On January 14, we made it clear when well over 100 Sierra Clubbers stood shoulder-to-shoulder with immigrants, workers, women, Muslims, and more in rallies to resist Trump’s xenophobic plans for mass deportation. It was an empowering glimpse of the united movement for justice we all need.
These are communities that have been part of the American fabric even centuries before the US was founded as a country.
Living in a healthy environment, literally and figuratively, is your right. Your respect for nature and dedication to preserve it, even as your most vulnerable communities are disproportionately bearing the brunt of pollution and climate change, sets a national example for all to admire and follow. That’s why, at the Sierra Club, we will continue to express our gratitude, admiration, and support to Latino communities in these very testing times.
