Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment

The National Hispanic Cultural Center and Festival Ballet Albuquerque presents The Nutcracker Ballet in the Land of Enchantment, Friday through Sunday, December 16-18 in the NHCC’s Albuquerque Journal Theatre as part of the Center’s Aliento: Latino Dance Season. With choreography by Patricia Dickinson Wells, each performance is also accompanied by a full live orchestra under the baton of Maestro Guillermo Figueroa.

The Nutcracker Ballet in the Land of Enchantment brings the beloved holiday classic to life in the late 1800s in territorial New México, with many surprises including Spanish and flamenco dancers, dancing southwestern snakes, sheep and shepherdesses, hummingbirds, a lively fandango, and a storyteller doll with children.

Traditional favorites such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Snowflakes, and Flowers are also preserved in all their splendor, while beautiful sets, lavish western Victorian-era costumes in the first-act Party, and amazing pyrotechnics in the Battle light up the stage in this spectacular production. Resplendent with New México heritage and traditions while maintaining the classical grace of its origins,

Performances are at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, with 2pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $14-$47, with $2 discounts for seniors and children, and are available from the NHCC Box Office, at (505) 724-4771, or at www.nhccnm.org.
