Poder Latinx and Arizona Drag Partner to Increase Voter Participation

Poder Latinx, a national organization building a political wave within the Latinx community, continues to promote voter registration and electoral participation for this year’s general election in partnership with Arizona Drag, a national online platform uplifting drag entertainment and culture.
This latest effort is aimed at reaching and engaging the younger demographic of voters, ages 18-35, to get them involved in the upcoming elections through voter education, voter protection, and Get Out The Vote as well as other related community involvement programs. The Arizona Drag Squad project will feature drag artists from across the state in a digital campaign promoting voter education and electoral reform through a “know your rights” video and corresponding portrait series. This campaign will also serve as a platform for electoral debates to engage candidates and community members on the issues our community will be voting for this November.
“Drag is rooted in the liberation of our communities. Drag has transformed and transcended generations. Drag entertainers are some of the most impacted communities during this pandemic and we believe it’s time for elected officials to pay attention to the issues we are facing. While drag is so mainstream with pop culture, we seek to reach younger people who are hungry for a change in 2020, all while being authentic, fabulous, and fierce,” said Adonias Arevalo, Arizona Director of Poder Latinx and Miss Gay Copper City America 2020.

In its first six months, Poder Latinx registered 30,000 voters, building a foundation poised to create change starting with the Presidential elections in 2020

“Arizona has one of the most recognized drag scenes and we are home to some of the most recognized pageants across the country. ArizonaDrag.com has served for many years as a platform to uplift, make visible, and honor the culture of drag through media coverage, drag award programs, fundraising, and community outreach,” said Edward Michael, Mr. Rock 2020 and Director of ArizonaDrag.com.
In addition to the electoral debates and digital outreach programs, the Drag Voter Squad will also be holding digital volunteer events to engage members of the community in efforts to increase voter registration, early voting, and voter participation.
Arizona Drag’s work elevates important LGBTQIA issues through various online and in-person community impact initiatives, events, and shows. For more information on Arizona Drag, visit arizonadrag.com.
