El Semanario Endorses Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser

El Semanario/The Weekly Issue is very pleased to endorse Mr. Phil Weiser, current Colorado Attorney General, for another term as the state’s Attorney General. Mr. Weiser has served in his current position since January 8, 2019 and is currently campaigning for re-election, which we wholeheartedly recommend.

Mr. Weiser has an extensive professional history of civic contributions to Denver, to Colorado, and to the U.S., not only in the law and the legal profession in Colorado but also on the national level. He served as Professor of Law and Dean of the University of Colorado Law School where he helped educate the next generation of lawyers. His preparation for Attorney General was exceptional as he served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice and in a Senior Advisor position for President Obama’s National Economic Council, among other such positions.

For the Latina/o community in Colorado, Attorney General Phil Weiser represents by far the best candidate in the November 8 election. As early as 2019, his first year in office, he helped lead changes to update police training, since as he has stated he realized that “for 40 years there wasn’t any effort to redesign the academy training” for new police candidates (CPR News October 3, 2022), leading to better police and community interactions, including for the Latina/o public. He emphasizes other issues of interest to the Latina/o community, including “defending civil rights, including reproductive rights” as the chief lawyer for the state, and “protecting our land, air and water,” along with other issues of concern for our current and future generations.
