The Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) thanks every one of our Vecinos, youth, community members, online supporters, and donors for the love and support you have shown in honoring Dolores’s extraordinary life and legacy. Our founder and president, Dolores Huerta, passed away on Oct. 28, 2026 at the age of 96, after dedicating her life to advancing social justice.
Today, the hearts of the DHF staff are filled with profound sorrow, but even more so with enduring gratitude, purpose, and resolve. As we mourn the passing of our visionary founder, mentor, and guiding light, we are deeply moved by the overwhelming outpouring of love, stories, and support from across the world. This global embrace is a powerful testament to Dolores’s unique gift: her ability to make every single person feel seen, valued, and essential.
History is not written by the wealthy and seemingly powerful, but rather by everyday people who recognize their own power and take collective action to make changes in their lives, their communities, and the world.
Dolores always reminded us of a fundamental truth that shapes everything we do: history is not written by the wealthy and seemingly powerful, but rather by everyday people who recognize their own power and take collective action to make changes in their lives, their communities, and the world.
To the world, “¡Sí, se puede!” is an iconic rallying cry that has mobilized and inspired generations. But to us, her staff, it was the daily reflection of her eternal optimism and her steadfast belief that what seems unachievable will transform the moment people awaken the internal power that Dolores recognized in all of us. In her eyes, there were no passive onlookers; every person she met was a leader and a potential organizer. She recognized our inherent power, and in turn, inspired us to believe in our own capacity to achieve true change and the liberation of all people.
When we gathered as a staff reently, we allowed our tears to flow freely. We shared our grief and held space for the immense void her physical absence leaves. But as we sat together, we were also crystal clear about what Dolores would say at the conclusion of our meeting:
“Get up, grab your materials, knock on every door, and make sure all eligible voters get out and vote!”
Dolores taught us that real power doesn’t lie with billionaires or the political elite; it lies within each person who is empowered and willing to make their voice heard.
As we navigate this turbulent landscape, we proudly carry her spirit, her joy, and her fierce determination forward. The work does not stop; it grows stronger. We will honor her life by staying on the frontlines, organizing our communities, and building a future of justice and dignity.
Dolores, humilde servidora de tu pueblo, gracias por darnos tu ejemplo. y claro, siempre… ¡Sí, se puede!
