Editor’s Note: Democratic nominee for Colorado Secretary of State Amanda Gonzalez released the statement below, following reporting that the Trump Administration will send Department of Justice (DOJ) monitors to Adams County on Election Day:

President Trump sending his DOJ monitors to Adams County – home to more than 200,000 Latino residents – is nothing more than a transparent attempt to undermine confidence in our election and intimidate voters. The fact that they’re being sent to one of the most diverse, most competitive Congressional districts in the entire country is clear evidence of the threat that the Trump Administration presents to this election and those in 2028.

Colorado will not be intimidated. Our elections are safe and secure because of the strong safeguards and transparent procedures we have in place and the dedicated election officials who uphold them. We will defend every eligible voter’s right to cast a ballot free from intimidation or political interference. We know how to stand up to outside pressure, protect Colorado voters and uphold the integrity of our elections.

I’m running for Secretary of State because protecting our voting rights is a sacred part of our democracy. And defending democracy takes all of us. Vote early. Return your ballot. Make your voices heard.
