Colorado Department of Education reminds Coloradans to submit nominations for 2026 Teacher of the Year

The Colorado Department of Education is reminding Coloradans to submit their nominations for the state’s 2026 Teacher of the Year on or before Monday, March 17. To date, 1,009 individuals from across the state have submitted a nominee for the award. All nominees will be invited to participate in the Teacher of the Year Application process. Nominations can be submitted at cdeinfo.org/toy.

Anyone can submit a nomination – or multiple nominations – and educators can also nominate themselves. Eligible nominees must be public school teachers working in state-accredited K-12 schools and plan to continue teaching throughout the 2026-27 school year.

The Teacher of the Year application selection process will advance through the summer and fall, with semifinalists announced in July, finalists named in September, and the 2026 Colorado Teacher of the Year announced in October. The selected educator will begin their term in January 2026.

“Strong teachers are the heart of great schools, and this is an opportunity for everyone in our community to recognize the teachers in their lives,” said Colorado Education Commissioner Susana Córdova.

The Colorado Teacher of the Year program is also supported by the Boettcher Foundation and in partnership with the Colorado Education Association, Adams State University, Blue Bell Ice Cream, and Colorado PTA.
