Coalition to Hold ‘All-Star’ Voting Rights Rally

A broad coalition of community, voting rights, labor, environmental, and women’s rights organization leaders will host a rally to celebrate Colorado’s gold-standard election laws and urge the U.S. Senate to pass the For the People Act at Trivoli Quad, Auraria Campus, 1000 Larimer St., this Sunday, July 11 at 1pm.

The legislation represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to protect Americans from voter suppression, hold politicians accountable, and defend our democracy for the next generation.

The rally will coincide with a weekend of festivities leading up to the MLB All-Star Game, which was relocated from Atlanta to Denver in response to Georgia’s new restrictive voting and elections law.

Rally goers will enjoy a series of speeches, with video remarks from Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold and Congressman John Sarbanes (lead sponsor of the For the People Act) and speakers including Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, Denver County Clerk Paul López, former State Representative Joe Salazar, frontline postal workers, and more.

“Colorado is lucky to have some of the most inclusive voting and election laws in the country,” organizers of the rally said. “We have set a gold-standard for vote-by-mail and consistently have one of the highest voter turnout rates in the country. In contrast, a wave of voter suppression bills targeting black and brown voters are being passed in states across the country. We are rallying to urge our Senators and the rest of Congress to end the filibuster and pass the For the People Act. This is our best chance to protect our democracy. Failure is simply not an option.”

The All-Star Voting Rights Rally is free and open to the community. Participating organizations include: American Friends Service Committee, Colorado, AFSCME Council 18, CleanSlateNow Action, Colorado AFL-CIO, Colorado Common Cause, Colorado Latino Forum, Colorado People’s Action, Colorado Rising, Colorado Sierra Club, Colorado Working Families Party, DemEnterCO, Indivisible Colorado, One Colorado Education Fund, OurRevolution Colorado, ProgressNow Colorado, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7, UNITE HERE Local 23, Denver Area Labor Federation, and Women’s Lobby of Colorado. Speakers will also include front-line postal workers.
