César L. Chávez, grandson of civil rights leader César Chávez, and Joe Kennedy III, grandson of U.S. Senator and U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, joined the Harris-Walz campaign, Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen (CO-07), and Colorado leaders to bring together Latino men at an “Hombres con Harris” Get Out the Vote (GOTV) event on Oct. 26 in Arvada, Colorado.

“As President, I know Kamala Harris will work for people like us because she has lived through what we’ve lived through. She grew up in a middle-class home, raised by a hardworking mother. She’s faced barriers and adversity. She’s had to earn everything she’s gotten, not just have it handed to her on a silver platter. That’s why I trust her to fight for equality, justice, fairness, and opportunity for all,” said César L. Chávez, grandson of civil rights leader César Chávez.

The Weekly Issue/El Semanario livestreamed the Oct. 26 event, watch the official gathering here.

“Kamala Harris will protect the democracy that has made this country the beacon of hope to families from all over the world. These next 10 days are about who will thrive in America now and for generations. Kamala will fight for those left behind with clear plans to lower costs and expand opportunity for all Americans. Trump has said he seeks ‘extreme power,’ and he will deliver government by the wealthiest, for the wealthiest. Trump has an enemies list; Kamala Harris has a to-do list. The power to choose is in our hands,” said Joe Kennedy III, grandson of Robert F. Kennedy.

As Coloradans head to the polls for in-person early voting, speakers highlighted Vice President Harris’ Opportunity Agenda for Latino Men and families that will lower costs, support increased homeownership, expand job opportunities, and ensure that Latino men and their families can reach their aspirations and achieve their American Dream.

“Kamala Harris has had a life-long determination to fight for equality for folks who’ve faced an uphill battle in America for far too long. And as Vice President, I have watched Kamala Harris work extremely hard to ensure everyone has a seat at the table. And she’ll carry on that leadership as President,” said Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen. “Now let’s look at Donald Trump – the man who came to Aurora for a political stunt to spread misinformation and racism in Colorado. The choice we all need to make this November couldn’t be clearer. Kamala Harris is the right candidate, and President, for this moment.”

Meanwhile, under Trump, the Latino unemployment rate spiked to over 18 percent and over 350,000 Latino children lost health insurance.

“Donald Trump isn’t staying awake at night thinking about you or your family. He’s certainly not thinking about your children’s future.  He only thinks about himself,” said Rhonda Solis, Representative for Congressional District 8 on the Colorado State Board of Education. “As a woman of color, Kamala Harris understands that Latinos have fought for a seat at the table for years. And we are not going back. We all deserve to live in Kamala Harris’ America – in a country that protects the interests of hardworking, middle-class people.”

A second Trump term would be a complete disaster for Latino men and their families. Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would slap a Trump Tax on everything from food to gasoline – raising costs on the average Latino family by nearly $4,000 a year, gut health care, rip families apart, and more.

“Donald Trump is an empty suit, with empty promises, who just blows smoke. I’ll tell you who’s tough: Kamala Harris is tough. When Kamala Harris was Attorney General, she took on drug cartels, she took on big banks, and she reduced violent crime. That’s tough,” said entrepreneur Uriel Berrum. “Kamala Harris is going to be able to provide opportunity not just to Latinos, but to everyone. As a Latino entrepreneur, I remember the struggles that it took to start my own business. I remember that every time I needed financing, it was difficult — Kamala Harris has a plan for that.”

“We’re here because the Latinos are the key to Kamala Harris’ and Democrats’ success in this election. There will not be a victory without us. So we’re showing up and making sure our voices are heard. Vice President Harris and Democrats are determined to give everyone an opportunity to not just get by, but get ahead — including Latino people in America,” said educational and community justice leader Nita Gonzales.

“It’s very important for Latinos to get out and vote,” stressed Chavez. “ I want to make sure they’re out their voting and that they’re representing themselves and their communities, and they can really have a say in what is going on in the political direction of the country. So its very important to for them to participate and show their families how its done and how to be civically active and to really set a precedent within their community and really stand for what’s right with Kamala and the Democrats.”

Team Harris-Walz and Democrats also hosted a Get-Out-the-Vote brunch with U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper, Colorado State Representatives Leslie Herod and Brianna Titone, Illinois State Representative Kelly Cassidy, and drag queen Aundria Sinclair to rally Colorado LGBTQ+ voters and encourage them to vote early for Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Tim Walz, and Democrats up and down the ballot.

“Vice President Harris has fought to protect the freedom of LGBTQ+ Americans to love who they love and be who they are—openly and with pride,” said U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper. “We are in a fight for our country’s future, and Vice President Harris is offering a New Way Forward for the American people. It’s time to finally turn the page on Trump and build a future where our freedoms are protected.”

Speakers highlighted Trump and Vance’s Project 2025 agenda that would threaten marriage equality, ban abortion nationwide, and take away Coloradans’ rights and freedoms. In stark contrast, Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are fighting for a New Way Forward that will protect our fundamental freedoms, restore and protect reproductive freedoms, and pass the Equality Act to enshrine protections for LGBTQ+ Americans.

“Trump’s Project 2025 agenda threatens to drag us back to those dark days. It would give him unchecked power and would ban abortion nationwide, jeopardize access to IVF, and strip away our hard-won freedoms. It’s time to turn the page. Vice President Harris is fighting for a New Way Forward, one that leaves the darkness and division of Trump in the past where it belongs,” said Colorado State Representative Leslie Herod.
