As Trump’s Mass Deportation Force and an “unshackled” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol continue their terror campaign across the country – detaining and deporting immigrants with U.S. citizen children and others with deep ties to America – elected officials, local leaders, and neighbors are uniting to fight for American values.
“Within days of taking office, Trump began to implement his strategy of mass deportation, and his henchmen are proceeding full speed ahead: detaining and deporting anyone who crosses their path,” said Lynn Tramonte, Deputy Director of America’s Voice Education Fund. “These cruel, chaotic, and costly efforts are both deeply unpopular and deeply un-American. A growing number of Americans are standing up and speaking out in support of an America that lives up to our motto of E Pluribus Unum, out of many, one.
As Congressman Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) said in response to the shooting of an immigrant by ICE: “Immigrant communities are scared enough as it is with all of Trump’s talk of mass deportations and going after ‘Bad Hombres,’ which in practical terms has meant going after moms and dads with no criminal activity… We don’t need gunfire and mayhem by federal officers in our neighborhoods in addition to everything else.”
Last week, as part of a protest organized by National Day Laborer Organizing Network during a forum between Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones and ICE Acting Director Thomas Homan, Bernard Marks, a Holocaust survivor imprisoned in both Auschwitz and Dachau concentration camps for five and a half years, warned of the consequences of the Trump Administration’s Mass Deportation policy.
Don’t tell me that this is a lie. We stand up here, Mr. Jones, don’t forget. History is not on your side.
“I spent five and a half years in concentration camps, for one reason and one reason only — because we picked on people. And you, as the sheriff, who we elected as sheriff of this county, we did not elect you to sheriff of Washington, D.C. It’s about time you side with the people here.
“And when this gentleman [Thomas Homan] stands up there and says he doesn’t go after people, he should read today’s Bee. Because in today’s Bee, the Supreme Court Justice of the State of California objected to ICE coming in and taking people away from the courts.
“Don’t tell me that this is a lie. We stand up here, Mr. Jones, don’t forget. History is not on your side.”
