Congressman Joe Neguse recently announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will begin accepting applications for disaster assistance for residents and business owners who sustained losses in the Marshall Fire. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
Congressman Neguse worked with Governor Polis and members of the congressional delegation to secure an expedited Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden. He also advocated in a call with the FEMA Administrator and the White House last Friday.
Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated counties can begin applying for assistance by registering online at http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
“I am incredibly grateful to President Biden and our FEMA Administrator for working swiftly to authorize a Major Disaster Declaration for the Marshall Fire, and per our request for including Individual Assistance for the many needing help in Superior and Louisville. Given the rapid escalation and destruction the need for federal support is urgent,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “As further guidance on assistance through this Declaration is made available, we will continue to work with our federal partners to ensure every Coloradan impacted by these unprecedented events has the resources to access aid and fully recover.”
The Marshall Fire wreaked havoc through Boulder and Broomfield Counties—destroying over 600 homes and businesses and forcing more than 30,000 residents to evacuate their homes throughout Superior, Louisville, Boulder County, Westminster, Broomfield, in addition to two hospitals in the area. This fire has destroyed the greatest number of homes in Colorado history.
