Our family is reaching out with heavy hearts and steadfast hope for our beloved relative, Arturo Jiménez — a devoted son, brother, father, nephew, cousin, partner, friend, longtime immigration attorney, and distance runner who has spent his career defending and uplifting others. Now he needs our help.
On October 7, Arturo went out for a run and suffered a sudden, massive heart attack. A passerby found him collapsed and performed CPR, saving his life. On the way to the hospital, he went into cardiac arrest a second time. He flatlined twice, and both times medical teams brought him back to us.
He was transported first to Denver Health, and then airlifted to St. Joseph Hospital, where specialists worked urgently to stabilize him. In the hours that followed, Arturo fought through severe complications — internal bleeding, dangerously low blood pressure, and the discovery that the trauma had triggered multiple mini-strokes in several areas of his brain and in his spine. These strokes led to significant weakness in his legs, and he will need to relearn how to walk.
For days, he remained sedated, on machines that were breathing and pumping for him. But slowly, signs of Arturo’s unmistakable strength began to surface. He squeezed nurses’ hands. He responded to questions. He raised his eyebrows in that familiar, humorous way that let us know he’s still here, and he’s fighting.
Updates from doctors now give us a cautious but real sense of hope:
– His neurological damage is repairing daily.
– His bleeding has stopped.
– His heart is healing.
– His sense of humor and love of Prince’s music lifts our spirits.
– He is awake, responsive, and showing the same type of strength and determination that made him a great attorney who fought tirelessly for his clients.
After a tracheotomy to help him breathe safely, he is finally stable enough to begin the next step in this long journey: rehabilitation. He is not yet ready for visitors but we will share your healing wishes with him.
Arturo, a solo practitioner, has spent his life standing up for immigrant families, showing up when others felt alone, and offering compassion with a steady voice. Now, as he faces months of recovery, medical care, and physical therapy, we want to show up for him in return.
We will be forever grateful to the good Samaritans, first responders, medical professionals and rehabilitative staff who have provided him immediate and around the clock lifesaving care.
How You Can Help:
This fundraiser will support:
– Arturo’s hospital expenses, rehabilitation, and ongoing medical needs
– Stabilizing expenses while Arturo is unable to work
Encouragement, love and prayers/offerings have carried our family through these first terrifying weeks. Now, your generosity—of any size—will continue to give Arturo the strength and support he needs to heal.
Our family believes in miracles and the healing power of community, and Arturo is already showing signs of the transformative power of love, one day at a time. Thank you for holding him in your thoughts, prayers, and kindness as he fights his way back to us.
With love and gratitude, The Jimenez/Calderón Family.
