U.S. Senator Michael Bennet recently toured the new site for Tepeyac Community Health Center in northeast Denver. Senator Bennet was instrumental in securing $2 million through the Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) omnibus funding bill, for Tepeyac. Sen. John Hickenlooper and Congresswoman Diana DeGette were also supporters of the funding earmarked for the Health Center.

Jim García, President and CEO of Tepeyac led Bennet on a tour highlighting the progress on the nearly completed project.

“I saw first-hand how Tepeyac Community Health Center plans to use $2 million we secured in the 2022 funding bill to construct a new health clinic for the Elyria-Swansea community,” stated Bennet. “I’m grateful for Tepeyac’s work to expand access to affordable health services for Coloradans.”

The Health Center will feature integrated health services that will include expanded medical, dental, mental health services and preventive care.

One of the unique features of this project is that, above Tepeyac’s new clinical facility, there will be 150 units of affordable housing, along with retail space that will offer fresh food and grocery.

The Senator praised the effort and progress made by the project, and noted the Tepeyac Health Care Center as “a national model” for health care facilities.

Bennet highlighted the need for the services provided by Tepeyac and the families they have served for generations.

“Access to care should not depend on how much money your parents make and or what neighborhood you live in, and that’s why Tepeyac is so critically important,” said Bennet. “It [Tepeyac] stands as a testament to the ambition of this neighborhood that their kids and their family members deserve the same quality high health care that anybody in America has.”
