On Tuesday, Feb. 25, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a budget resolution that paves the way for massive cuts to critical programs impacting Colorado families, including Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), housing assistance and energy efficiency, while providing huge tax handouts to the wealthiest in the nation.
On Monday, Feb. 24, Nearly 100 community organizations in Colorado united to send a powerful message to the state’s eight U.S. House Representatives and two U.S. Senators urging them to vote against proposed deep cuts to vital federal funding for programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and housing assistance, and energy efficiency initiatives.

These cost-effective programs help ensure every Coloradan has the freedom to secure healthcare, housing, energy, and food. This isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s essential for ensuring the future health and wellbeing for all our country.
The current proposals under the House Budget plan would:
- Slash funding for Medicaid services and put the health coverage of more than 1.1 million Coloradans at risk.
- Cut SNAP benefits, which one in 10 Coloradans depend on to afford groceries, by $3.2 billion over the next decade.
- Make cuts to the Child Tax Credit (CTC) which provides critical support to 640,000 low-wage working families with kids in Colorado—that’s 21% of local tax filers.
- Destabilize/sabotage state and local economies.
We would like to thank Representative DeGette, Neguse, Crow, and Pettersen, who voted no and stood up for the wellbeing of Coloradans and our economy.
We were disappointed to see Representatives Hurd, Boebert, Crank, and Evans vote in favor of these ill-advised cuts. The vast majority of people in Colorado, regardless of their political leanings, want an economy that makes it possible for folks to afford the cost of essential services like food, housing and healthcare.
This week, nearly 100 Colorado organizations, representing Coloradans from all walks of life, call on Colorado’s representatives to do the right thing and invest in an economy that makes it possible for folks to afford the cost of essential services like food, housing and healthcare.
