Colorado Attorney General and candidate for governor Phil Weiser announced that he has been endorsed by two of the state’s leading gun violence prevention advocates: state Sen. Tom Sullivan and Arapahoe County Commissioner and former state Sen. Rhonda Fields. Both are from families that endured tragic losses due to gun violence.
Weiser remains the only candidate in the Democratic primary for governor with a comprehensive public safety and gun violence prevention strategy, which is built on three pillars: smart prevention efforts and common-sense laws, strong support of law enforcement, and community partnerships that address root causes of crime.
“Over the last eight years, the Colorado Legislature has been able to get 33 votes in the House and 18 votes in the Senate to support data-driven, common-sense gun violence prevention legislation. Our biggest challenge has been the one vote in the executive branch,” Tom Sullivan said. “As attorney general, Phil has been fighting for and defending many of those bills in court, and he has assured me that he will work just as hard to support common-sense legislation as Colorado’s next governor. I’m proud to endorse him.”
“I’ve seen Phil defend, I’ve seen him fight, and I’ve seen him serve and protect the state of Colorado,” Rhonda Fields said. “Phil understands the challenges our communities face from every corner, and he cares about solving problems. He hasn’t left anybody behind, and he has addressed a wide range of issues with passion; integrity; and demonstrated, proven leadership. Phil is ready to deliver for the state of Colorado, and I’m proud to endorse him.”
“Tom and Rhonda are fearless gun violence prevention advocates and public servants who have courageously dedicated their lives to making Colorado safer for all and for supporting victims. I’m honored to have their support,” Phil Weiser said. “All Coloradans deserve to be safe and have faith that their schools, neighborhoods, businesses, and public spaces are protected. As governor, I will deliver on a comprehensive public safety and gun violence prevention strategy that keeps our communities and families safe as well as support victims.”
Since the campaign’s launch, support for Weiser has surged, growing from 89 endorsements in March 2025 to more than 200 in less than a year. Today, Weiser has more endorsements from current and former state legislators, mayors, council members, county commissioners, and law enforcement officials than his opponent, U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet.
