Senator Cory Gardner is lying to Coloradans and hoping voters will forget that he has spent a decade in Washington trying to rip away health care coverage for people with pre-existing conditions and supports the GOP’s lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act in the middle of a pandemic.
On Tuesday, Hickenlooper for Colorado launched a new website, CoryGardnerWontProtectPreexistingConditions.com, so Coloradans have the facts about Gardner’s record of trying to gut health care coverage for the 2.4 million Coloradans with pre-existing conditions like cancer, asthma, and diabetes.
“Senator Gardner has spent his whole career in Congress trying to gut coverage for the 2.4 million Coloradans with pre-existing conditions. Now he’s lying to those same Coloradans about his record — his sham bill doesn’t actually do what he says,” said John Hickenlooper. “As Governor, I expanded health coverage to half a million more Coloradans. And in the U.S. Senate, I’ll keep fighting to expand access to care — not rip it away like Senator Gardner has done for a decade.”

Gardner’s latest TV ad touts a stunt bill that health care experts and independent fact checkers have said still allows insurance companies to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. 9News called Gardner’s stunt bill “actually horse excrement” and former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has said Gardner “knows what he’s put forward would not protect people.”
After seeing the ad this morning, Colorado cancer survivor Laura Packard accused Gardner of “trying to cover up [his] own record” of voting to strip coverage from her and other Coloradans with pre-existing conditions.
The new website lists Gardner’s 13 votes to repeal, defund, or block the Affordable Care Act — which his own website still says he wants to overturn:
