Health and Humility

Dr. Pamela Valenza

We are about to embark on something new together! An opportunity to learn more about yourself through health, an opportunity to ask questions, and perhaps an opportunity to make a few small first steps on your own journey to better health for you or your loved ones.

First, an opportunity to learn more about who you will be sharing this health journey with! My name is Dr. Pamela Valenzuela, MD, MPH. I am a family physician and I have been the Chief Health Officer at Tepeyac Community Health Center (Tepeyac) in Denver, Colorado for the past 6 years.

During the pandemic, I became a trusted voice, sharing information in media appearances and local events to increase awareness about the pandemic and impact on the Denver Latino community and to increase understanding about the virus and, when the time came, its vaccines, including speaking on a Colorado Public Radio Colorado Matters segment and sitting on a panel discussing Kids and the COVID vaccine hosted by The Colorado Sun. Just last year in 2023, I was humbled to be awarded the Colorado Academy of Family Physician (CAFP) Colorado Family Physician of the Year award.

Sample topics we may cover in this column include skin cancer, health prevention (breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, colon cancer screening, immunizations), diabetes, weight loss, acid reflux, sleep problems, insurance, psoriasis, and depression. I would also like to invite readers to submit questions or topics for future columns.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you!

Pamela Valenza, MD, Chief Health Officer, Tepeyac Community Health Center.
