Explosive Story on Former President’s Immigration Plan is ‘Flashing Red Alert’

A New York Times deep-dive published over the weekend details a chilling array of plans that Donald Trump and Stephen Miller aim to implement in a Trump second term, including assaults on legal immigration, refugees, asylum seekers, the foreign born and their children. Together with a Washington Post weekend headline “Trump calls political enemies ‘vermin,’ echoing dictators Hitler, Mussolini,” the articles underscore the stakes of the upcoming election cycle.

Donald Trump’s promised ‘great purge’ of immigrants would only be the beginning of a radical disruption of American life as we know it. A Trump second term would not just be devastating for immigrant communities, but would inflict massive damage on American communities, the economy, and the very idea of our nation as a beacon of freedom and opportunity for people around the world. Trump wants to transform the notion of a confident and inclusive American democracy into a fearful and insular country, hopelessly divided along racial and partisan lines.

Trump and company not only want to close the U.S. borders to future refugees and legal immigrants, but also forcibly eject millions from their communities, homes and businesses, shuttling them into deportation camps, and leaving millions of U.S. citizen kids behind – or revoking their citizenship and ejecting them too.

Those of us that believe in a different vision of America will fight like hell to make sure the chilling promises for a Trump second term don’t come to pass.

Entire communities and industries that rely on immigrants to drive the economy would be wiped out; cities devastated by storms and natural disasters would lose vital labor; and our labor shortages would worsen, hurting American consumers and businesses across the board. The cost of this deportation agenda would not only be billions in economic terms, but incalculably damaging in human, community, and social fabric terms.

The New York Times story should be a flashing red alert for what’s at stake in the upcoming elections. None of the Trump and Stephen Miller plans would make us safer or advance real solutions to the challenges of 21st century migration. Those of us that believe in a different vision of America will fight like hell to make sure the chilling promises for a Trump second term don’t come to pass.
