\nDenver celebrates D\u00eda de los Muertos with family-friendly fun throughout the entire city. \u201cD\u00eda de los Muertos\u201d or the \u201cDay of the Dead\u201d, is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout M\u00e9xico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially the United States. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration begins on October 31 (All Hallows\u2019 Eve), November 1 (All Saints\u2019 Day) and November 2 (All Souls\u2019 Day), comprising the triduum of Allhallowtide. Families make altars with photos of the deceased, along with offerings of food, candles, incense and yellow marigolds. Denver has been lovingly honoring its deceased for over a quarter of a century.<\/p>\n
Colorado\u2019s largest Day of the Dead celebration is in Longmont for the Longmont Museum\u2019s signature event and the largest Day of the Dead celebration in Colorado, attracting more than 6,000 people to the exhibit, family celebration, and related programming. Celebrating their 16th anniversary this year, the celebration demonstrates how a diverse community can come together to share a common desire \u2013 to honor their ancestors and keep their memories alive. Longmont Museum & Cultural Center\u2019s annual D\u00eda de los Muertos free exhibition runs October 15 through November 8. The exhibition will be in the Swan Atrium, a two-story space full of light in the museum\u2019s new addition. It will showcase original artwork by local artists Carlos Fresquez and Francisco Zamora. Carlos Fr\u00e9squez Sal\u00f3n de Ilegales\/Salon of Illegals is a mixed media installation of various landscape paintings and prints. There will also be a free family celebration on Saturday, November 5th with fun and live entertainment including music and dancing, sugar skull decorating, traditional food, community altars, paper flower making, face painting, Day of the Dead icon Lady Catrina and more. On October 15th, 22nd and 29th join a free tour of the Day of the Dead exhibition with bilingual tour guide Laura Zavala. The Chicano Humanities & Arts Council (CHAC) was founded in 1978 as a place where Chicano\/Latino artists could explore visual and performance art while promoting and preserving the Chicano\/Latino culture through the expression of the arts. D\u00eda de los Muertos has been a yearly exhibition offered at the Pirate gallery in northwest Denver since 1983 when member Patricio Cordova, alongside Martha Keeting and Bob Luna (and later with help from Maruca and Daniel Salazar) organized the first D\u00eda de los Muertos and then ran the program for approximately 15 years. The D\u00eda de los Muertos exhibition will run October 14th \u2013 October 30th.
