End Citizens United, Congressman Jason Crow, and GIFFORDS on Monday hosted a town hall in Colorado’s 8th district and called out its representative, Rep. Gabe Evans, for selling out his constituents to his special interest donors.
ECU President Tiffany Muller moderated the conversation between Congressman Crow and GIFFORDS senior advisor Scott Kelly. They discussed how groups like the gun lobby have flooded the political system with money to ensure that politicians vote in their favor. Coloradans have faced the consequences: they feel economically squeezed, less safe, and frustrated with a government that fails to deliver relief.
“Rep. Gabe Evans promised to put Colorado first. Instead, he has spent his first term siding with corporate PACs, special interests, and the party bosses who helped put him in office,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Whether it’s healthcare, rising costs, or his support for another war of choice, Evans has repeatedly lied to his constituents and sold them out. That record comes with consequences. Coloradans don’t expect perfection, but they do expect honesty, independence, and the courage to put their interests ahead of powerful donors. By any measure, Gabe Evans has failed that test.”
“Corruption is poisoning our politics,” said Congressman Crow. “As Colorado families pay more for groceries, energy, and healthcare, Donald Trump, Gabe Evans, and their billionaire buddies are enriching themselves at taxpayers’ expense. Coloradans have had enough. We’re mobilizing to ensure our leaders in Washington are answering to working families and not just the elite and well-connected.”
“It’s clear Gabe Evans cares more about protecting the profits of his gun industry campaign donors than keeping Colorado families safe. Evans has repeatedly voted against public safety measures and proposed laws that will make Coloradans less safe, while 1,000 Coloradans lose their lives to guns each year. It doesn’t have to be this way. I was proud to join Congressman Crow and End Citizens United today to say enough is enough. It’s time to send someone to Congress that represents the will of the people of the Eighth District,” said former astronaut and GIFFORDS senior advisor Scott Kelly.
