As voters prepare to choose who will represent Colorado’s First Congressional District, the decision should be guided by demonstrated results, legislative effectiveness, and a proven commitment to public service.

We need experienced leadership to stand strong and defend our democracy and get us through the unprecedented chaos and uncertainty in this country.

For nearly three decades, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette has been a powerful and significant voice in Congress on issues affecting Colorado families and communities. Her tenure has been marked by sustained work on healthcare affordability, consumer protections, scientific research, infrastructure investment, environmental stewardship, and economic opportunity.

Rep. DeGette serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. She also serves on several subcommittees and is the ranking member of the Health panel of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. She also serves as co-chair of the following caucuses: Congressional Diabetes Caucus, which supports legislative activities that would improve diabetes research, education, and treatment.

Congressional Reproductive Freedom Caucus, which supports Americans’ reproductive rights and works to reinstate the full protections of Roe v. Wade.

Congressional Olympic and Paralympic Caucus, which supports Team USA and works to advance the Olympic and Paralympic movements.

Among her most notable accomplishments has been her leadership in efforts to lower prescription drug costs and expand access to healthcare. She has worked to advanced policies designed to reduce the financial burden of healthcare on families, seniors, and individuals living with chronic illnesses. Her advocacy has also helped strengthen federal support for medical research and innovation, contributing to advances that benefit patients nationwide.

As Co-Chair of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, Diana DeGette is one of Congress’s most steadfast champions for our reproductive rights. She believes every person should have the freedom to make their own decisions about their body, their health, and their future.

Last month, Reproductive Freedom Caucus Co-Chair Reps. Diana DeGette and more than 250 Senate and House Democrats—led by Congressional Reproductive Freedom Caucus filed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court urging them to overturn a Fifth Circuit decision that would upend the FDA approval process and restrict access to life-saving mifepristone.

DeGette has pushed back against ICE and the dangerous ramifications of unchecked leadership from the Department of Homeland Security. She has been very clear and direct where she stands with our community regarding immigration issues and the rights and wellness of families and unaccompanied children seeking refuge in the United States. In her first year as a member of Congress, she held informational meetings in our communities to help our people understand their rights as immigrants and for those who advocate for the rights of immigrants. This was a rare moment for our communities to be heard by an elected official in Washington, D.C.

Over the past three decades, her messaging and support of our immigrant brothers and sisters has never wavered. Rep. DeGette continues to speak out and oppose funding the dangerous action of the current administration’s neglect and abuse of immigrants.

DeGette is standing up to ICE abuses because she believes our immigration system must reflect dignity, fairness and humanity— never cruelty or fear. She is fighting to keep families together, protect workers, and create a real path to citizenship.

Colorado has benefited from DeGette’s work to secure federal investments in transportation, infrastructure, and community development projects. Federal resources directed toward roads, bridges, transit systems, and neighborhood improvements have helped strengthen local economies and improve quality of life throughout the Denver metropolitan area.

Water remains one of the most critical issues facing the American West. DeGette has supported efforts to protect Colorado’s water resources, strengthen drought resilience, and advance long-term solutions for the Colorado River Basin. These issues are essential to the future of Colorado’s communities, agriculture, and economy.

DeGette has also supported initiatives promoting clean energy development, environmental protection, and job creation. As Colorado continues to grow, these investments help position the state for long-term economic competitiveness while addressing the challenges of a changing environment. She stands steadfast in protecting public lands and earlier this year by reintroducing the Colorado Wilderness Act, a landmark bill that would permanently protect more than 720,000 acres of wilderness across 36 distinct areas in Colorado with the highest level of federal protection available.

Her work has extended beyond Colorado through leadership on national issues involving healthcare policy, biomedical research, consumer rights, and government accountability. Few members of Colorado’s congressional delegation possess comparable institutional knowledge or legislative experience.

Public service should be measured by effectiveness, consistency, and a record of addressing the needs of constituents. In a period marked by economic uncertainty, political division, and complex policy challenges, experience and results demonstrated remain important considerations.

Based on her record of service and accomplishments, The Weekly Issue/ El Semanario proudly endorses Diana DeGette for reelection to the United States Congress.
