In a time when public trust in institutions continues to be tested, leadership grounded in integrity, accountability, and results matters more than ever. That is why we endorse Phil Weiser as Colorado’s next Governor for the upcoming November 3, 2026, Colorado statewide election.

For many across Colorado—especially within Latino communities, small business owners, and working families—government is not an abstract concept. It is personal. It is about opportunity and fairness and whether the system works for you or against you. Phil Weiser has demonstrated an understanding of that responsibility through actions, not words.

As Attorney General, his record has consistently reflected a commitment to protecting everyday people. From taking on consumer fraud to addressing corporate practices that impact small businesses, his work has helped create a more level playing field for those working to build, sustain, and grow. These protections matter deeply in communities where every dollar, every job, and every opportunity counts.

Just as important is his defense of fundamental rights. Weiser has supported First Amendment protections, recognizing that every voice—regardless of background or status—deserves to be heard. He has stood behind voting rights, reinforcing that access to the ballot must remain fair, secure, and accessible to all communities, including such historically underrepresented as the Latino communities. And he has supported legal frameworks that protect immigrant families, emphasizing dignity, due process, and equal protection under the law—principles that resonate strongly in a state shaped by generations of immigrant contributions. He knows about immigration exceedingly well.  As he has stated, “In 1945, my mom was born in a Nazi concentration camp. After U.S. soldiers liberated them, my grandparents and mom immigrated to the United States as refugees, and they were welcomed.”

But Colorado’s next Governor must do more than protect—he or she must build.

On the economy, that means creating real pathways for small business growth, particularly within Latino and minority communities that continue to face barriers to capital, resources, and opportunity. It means recognizing that entrepreneurship is one of the strongest engines of economic mobility and ensuring that state leadership supports—not overlooks—those efforts.

On education, it means investing in systems that reflect the diversity of our state. Our students must see themselves in their opportunities, whether through college, vocational training, or career pathways that lead to stability and success. Strong schools are not just an education issue—they are an economic and community issue. In advocating for broad based public education, he states, “We must ensure that future budgets are not balanced by cuts to K-12 education…and I will never support privatizing our schools or allowing profit-motives to undermine our kids’ education.”

On affordability, it means addressing the rising cost of living that is impacting families across Colorado—from housing to healthcare to gas prices and everyday expenses. These are kitchen-table issues, and they demand leadership that understands their urgency.

On public safety, Weiser brings a balanced approach—supporting law enforcement while advancing reforms that build trust between communities and those sworn to protect them. Safe communities and just communities must go hand in hand.

And looking forward, Colorado must be prepared for what comes next. From data privacy to environmental stewardship, Phil Weiser as Attorney General has demonstrated an ability to engage with complex, emerging challenges—an essential quality for any Governor tasked with leading a state into the future.

For The Weekly Issue/El Semanario, this endorsement is rooted in a fundamental but powerful principle: leadership should reflect and serve all people. It should protect opportunity, expand access, and ensure that no community is left behind.

Phil Weiser has shown that he understands that responsibility. More importantly, he has demonstrated he is prepared to carry it forward.

For these reasons, we proudly endorse Phil Weiser as Colorado’s next Governor.
