Congresswoman Diana DeGette’s campaign responded on Monday to baseless and conspiratorial accusations made by one of her opponents, Melat Kiros.
“My opponent has lied about me since she launched her campaign. I can’t believe I have to say this, but it’s an absolute lie that I or my campaign had anything to do with her venue cancellations. She’s free to make her own mistakes, and campaigning with an infamous anti-semite who says he “hates this country” and thinks we “deserved 9/11” is a big one,” said Congresswoman DeGette. “The worst part is that Melat Kiros thinks voters are gullible enough to just believe whatever she says. Denver is smarter than that, and we won’t be fooled.”
Over the weekend, former barista Melat Kiros attempted to hold a rally with a streaming influencer that the Anti-Defamation League says has “expressed support for designated terrorist organizations and antisemitic ideas.” After several venues apparently declined to host the event, Kiros posted a video claiming without evidence that the congresswoman had intervened to stop the rally. The claim is false and completely made up.
My opponent has lied about me since she launched her campaign.”

Diana’s campaign has drawn support from a growing coalition of labor unions, progressive leaders, and community organizations, including the National Organization for Women, Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL), the Colorado AFL-CIO, LiUNA, AFGE, AFSCME, the International Association of Firefighters, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, SEIU Colorado, and the campaign arms of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. She is also supported by Colorado’s Congressional Democrats, including Reps. Jason Crow, Brittany Pettersen, and Joe Neguse.
Diana DeGette is a progressive champion representing Colorado’s 1st Congressional District. She co-chairs the Reproductive Freedom Caucus and is a national leader in the fight to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade. She is an original cosponsor of the Medicare for All Act and is fighting to protect Medicaid from devastating Republican budget cuts. She is standing up to the Trump administration’s widespread abuse of power, serving as an Impeachment Manager against Trump in his first term, pushing to end his unconstitutional war in Iran, and demanding that Congress defund and dismantle ICE.
