A coalition of community organizations and unions are getting together this week to formally endorse community advocate Eleazar Meléndez for City of Miami Commissioner in District 1 and announcing joint voter mobilization efforts in the area.
The coalition includes community organizations such as New Florida Majority through its New Florida Vision PAC, FLIC Votes and UNITE Here.
Eleazar Meléndez has proven his commitment to his community, not only as an advocate for climate resiliency, but also by responding to endorsement questionnaires from each organization, and meeting personally with their members.
Together, the organizations aim to reach approximately 9,000 voters in District 1, focusing on working class Latinxs and voters of color who make up the majority of voters in the District.
Election day is November 5, 2019 and the deadline to register to vote is October 7, 2019.
The New Florida Majority (NewFM) is an independent political organization working to increase the voting and political power of historically marginalized and excluded constituencies toward an inclusive, equitable, and just Florida. For more information on NewFM: www.newfloridamajority.org.
