Chante Chicano: Promises Are Seldom Kept

Whenever you make some commitment there is an implied expectation. In some cases, it is very detailed and well communicated. Most of the time it is very vague. Today’s lack of integrity requires contracts and signed affidavits because people can hardly remember what they committed to. Much less be trusted to fulfill what they promised to complete. Don’t even get me started on the political promises made with corporations before the candidate even begins to ask for votes. I mean somebody has to pay for all those ridiculous ads.

The best situation is when there is a shared outcome. When people can agree on what the commitment will fulfill. These differences are the reason we have so many conflicting and opposing forces in our social/political arena today. The root of this division is because people have ignored the input of so many other beings. Not talking about the neighbors along your block so much as the plant, animal and mineral kingdoms that we have labeled as ‘resources’. They are earthlings too.

So many of our ‘accredited’ scientists today would respond that there is no way to know what those other earthlings desire to communicate. We stifle our clarity because we think in terms of communications with only the human capacity of talking and writing and now video/audio electronic devices. Perhaps the distortion of our messages through electronic devices is also the core of communication failure? It is much more convenient to think that other people are ignorant or sinful and greedy. Along with a variety of other human defects we have proudly been able to classify.

The point that I’m trying to make though is not about HOW we fail to build some collective shared outcome for our social/political endeavors. I would like to see who focuses on WHY we bring together collective effort. Culture has been a force that grants its members a shared experience, and thereby some expectation of where we should be going. Heritage is another similar term that keeps us grounded in a set of beliefs, attitudes and knowledge. Identity more than both is what gives each individual the motivation to wake up and put their garments on.

As we get experience in life we soon learn however, that as an individual, you are very limited and even lost about What to do or where to be. So, WHEN we actually make a decision, it has a greater impact on the outcome of our efforts. Sadly, our linear timeline has us trapped into trying to figure out the past and worrying about what the future will bring. Staying in the present moment and keeping your attention focused on your surroundings helps to recognize when the opportunity is there.

Maybe it’s not the opportunity you had planned for? Discernment can often help to distinguish the required action at that precise moment. The only real question is; are you going to respond out of LOVE or FEAR? As people we tend to judge one another on that response. This judgement is another grave error that we humans pretend to explain why the other person was unable to fulfill their promise. This can lead to separation and isolation, which is unhealthy for the human mind. Even more damaging to the vibration of the human heart.

Forgiveness was the tool implemented to repair this type of damage. Many of us are not ready to forgive and perhaps that is another issue of timing and knowing when is the right time. It is hard to apply forgiveness to someone that continues to inflict the same injury. Even if it is only themselves that they are hurting. This is where my point is intended to make. Most of us are less aware of our impact in the grand scheme. We often punish ourselves more than others for the failures to keep our promises. Also, those commitments are generally based on the desires of others who are not working toward the collective goal of the planet.

Human nature is only a fracture of the Mother nature. Many of us believe our human nature to be in contrast with the environment, which is a grave mistake. Others believe they can feel the desire of spirit and then their ambitions move to bring others in line with platonic and superficial goals. That’s why we have so many boundaries, businesses and borders. Believe me, there is little about this society today that is natural, yet most of the world is still in its natural state.

Nature creates natural boundaries the way she produces jungles, deserts, mountains and beaches. Different species are another example of nature’s boundaries, but we fail to see ourselves as a collective as the ants do. So, we work for opposing forces and pretend to hope for a manmade future. Or worse, we pretend that nothing we do matters and just keep doing what everyone tells us.

Come back to yourself. Heal your heart. Forgive your trespasses and remember that people are made from love. When we see that others are a reflection of ourselves, we begin that collective effort in joyful abandon. We can wait without expectation for our personal ambitions to get met. We can tap into nature’s desire and recognize the language of plants and animals. It’s not going to be all peachy and blissful every day. But even the challenges are part of our growth and facing fears can be a welcome adventure.
