Celebrate Día de los Muertos in Colorado

Carlos Lecanda ‘Las Catrinas’ Corky Gonzales Library: Saturday, Oct 28. In celebration of Día de Muertos Recuerdos 2023 the Chicano Humanities Arts Council (CHAC) is pleased to announce a nine-month exhibition of Mexican artist Carlos Lecanda’s “ Las Catrinas”, at the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Library, opening Sat. Oct 28, 9am-5pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library is located at 1498 N. Irving Street, Denver, CO. Learn more about the exhibit here.

Viva Colorado Festival and Día de los Muertos Parade: Saturday, October 28, Santa Fe Dr. and Denver’s Civic Center Park, Colfax & Broadway, Denver. Parade: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The parade will start at West 7th Avenue and Santa Fe Drive and will make its way toward West 13th Avenue and Santa Fe, then ends at La Alma Lincoln Park at West 13th Avenue and North Mariposa Street. The parade will feature floats, marching bands, dancers, fire trucks and many people dressed in colorful costumes. Festival: noon to 8 p.m. at Denver’s Civic Center Park, 101 W. 14th Ave., Denver. The festival will feature food vendors, live music, drinks, exhibitors, Catrina contest, games, an altar exhibition and international music from around the world. There will also be special performances from the Banda Los Mazatlecos, Sonora Dinamita. The parade and festival is free and open to the public. Learn more about the parade and festival.

 

Longmont Día de los Muertos: Check out all of Longmont’s Día de los Muertos events including exhibitions, family celebrations and a Noche de Museo. Longmont’s. Día de los Muertos Exhibition (free) now thru Nov. 5. The Día de Muertos exhibition returns to the Museum’s Swan Atrium this fall featuring ofrendas (altars) built by community members and the work of local artists.

 

Longmont Noche de Museo: Celebrating Día de los Muertos: Thursday, Nov. 2, 7 pm; $18 general admission, $15 students/seniors, $12 members. Featuring Grupo Huitzilopochtli Danza Azteca, Las Dahlias and Los Mocochetes. Join us for an evening of live performance in celebration of Día de Muertos that will span the ages, from ancient Aztecan dance to contemporary Chicano Funk. Noche de Museo: Celebrar el Día de los Muertos: Jueves 2 de noviembre, 19.00 h. $18 la entrada general, $15 los estudiantes y jubilados, $12 los socios. Día de los Muertos en Westwood: A three-day celebration beginning Friday, Nov. 3, with “Mikailwitl,” a celebration honoring ancestral traditions before colonization, followed by Saturday, Nov. 4Muertos en el Barrio,” celebrating the Chicano and Mexican-American community’s reclamation of Día de los Muertos, and ending Sunday, Nov. 5, with “Festival de las Catrinas,” highlighting today’s iconic muertos representation. Muertos en Westwood Street Festival will be held on November 3-5, 3700-3900 Morrison Rd, Denver, CO 80219.

40 West Arts District Día de los Muertos Art Crawl & Street Party, Friday, Nov. 3 in Lakewood with the 40 West Arts District. This free event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the 40 West Arts District, 7130 W. 16th Ave. in Lakewood, CO. Join 40 West Arts District, CHAC, and Pirate: Contemporary Art alongside our many galleries and creative businesses for our annual Día de los Muertos Art Crawl and celebration. There will be exhibitions, altars, Aztec dancers, traditional Indigenous and Latino/a/x artists, food trucks, craft stations, face painting, and more. This free and family-friendly event is open to all.

 

CHAC Dia de Los Muertos Community Celebration: Friday, November 3, 5-9pm, CHAC Gallery + Cultural Center. Celebrate Día de Los Muertos with CHAC Gallery and the Santa Fe Arts District. Visit CHAC’s Dia de Los Muertos Art Exhibit “Life, Death and Rebirth: Vida, Muerte y Renacimiento” open thru Nov. 17, 4pm.

 

CHAC will have a community altar, face painting, refreshments, and music. CHAC is located at 834 Santa Fe Dr. Denver in the Denver Arts District.

 

Museo de la Americas Day of the Dead on First Friday, Nov. 3, in Denver. The Museo will host an array of activities, performance and vendors. This event is free and open to the public from 5 to 9 p.m. Learn more. Where? Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe. The museum is located at 861 Santa Fe Drive in Denver and businesses, residents and art galleries in the district join in the Day of the Dead festivities.
