On May 15, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser’s campaign for governor released the following statement on Michael Bennet’s Super PAC – which is bankrolled by out-of-state billionaires, big corporations, and dark money – launching BS negative paid ads that falsely represent Phil’s record as attorney general and attack his integrity.
“Michael Bennet and the out-of-state billionaires, big corporations, and dark money groups bankrolling him are desperately trying to attack Phil Weiser for one simple reason: Phil’s momentum is surging,” said Weiser campaign spokesperson Nate Jackson. “Phil’s campaign is powered by unprecedented grassroots support from across Colorado, and Michael Bennet’s establishment, Washington-style campaign is powered by a Super PAC with dark money and out-of-state billionaires’ checks. The choice in this race is clear: Phil Weiser is the candidate of Colorado, and Michael Bennet is the candidate of Washington.”
Bennet’s negative ads come after Phil’s campaign last week called BS on the growing, misleading attacks against Phil.
“I worked side by side with Phil Weiser to take on Donald Trump. Anyone who suggests that Phil is anything other than a national leader in that effort doesn’t know what they are talking about and is intentionally trying to mislead voters,” said former Attorney General and current Washington Governor Bob Ferguson. “Phil Weiser has demonstrated real leadership as Colorado’s attorney general, always using his sharp legal mind to help lead other state attorneys general in the fight against the lawless, bullying Trump administration. Phil’s winning record as attorney general is clear — and as governor, Phil will show up and fight for all Coloradans every day.”
These ads continue the BS with multiple inaccurate statements.
The ads also come as Phil’s grassroots momentum continues to surge. This month alone, Weiser:
- Dominated Bennet in the first televised gubernatorial primary debate
- Dropped com highlighting Bennet’s out-of-touch votes for Trump nominees.
- Announced a historic $6 million fundraising total – with 93% of donors from Coloradans – officially breaking the record for most money raised by a non-self-funding statewide candidate in Colorado history;
- Launched “Future” – the campaign’s second TV ad
